Rexx's Homemade Dog Bed

We took a memory foam off of our bed. It was made by Tempurpedic and very nice but was not working for our backs anymore. It was expensive so I did not just want to throw it away or give it away. So I started to brain storm and figure out what I could do with it. Well I had it I was going to make Rexx a dog bed.

We went to Jo Ann Fabrics and I bought some fabric( it was specified as outdoor). The regular blue was 50% off and I got a yard and a half. The pretty blue and white design I got a half a yard that was full price 19.95 a yard. Then I got a 30 inch yellow zipper that I am in love with the pop of the yellow and some yellow thread. I spent a total of $27.00

Once we got home I was so excited. Now I have never sewn anything before besides a pillow. Also I had NO prints to follow I was winging this. So I started writing down some measurements and getting started. The original measurements

  • A(4)6"-5"- front & back little blue pieces
  • B(2)6"-37" - side pieces
  • C(1)37"-18"- for your patterned top pieces
  • D(1)37"-26" - your bottom piece
  • E(2)6"-18" - your pattern side pieces
  • F(2)37"- 4"- top side pieces

After figuring out these measurements I added an inch to for when you sew you have room for the stitch  (did I say that right?)

Then I began to cut:)
and started sewing.

When I was sewing I had to make sure I was lining up the backsides and edges not the front. Because each little piece I would sew I had to make sure it was right.

I did exactly what I just told you not to and not once TWICE! So it took a lot of time to pull out the the stitches that were backwards.

Sorry I was not to good on explaining the directions. I have never really sewed before so this was like a trial and error for me :)
Have any questions? How do you think I did for just winging it?
